GO PACKERS! by Milo The Blog Dog, posted Feb 7 2011 2:00PM
What a great weekend! We started out at my little buddy Melvin's house on Friday night with dinner and a movie. I got to share a pork burger with my pals, and then we all got on the couch and watched The King's Speech. Saturday was BEAUTIFUL, so Marty O' took me to the park for a run, and we played in the snow for a long time. We got some cool pics. Since it's been sooooo cold outside, we haven't been to the park in a whole week! Sunday was cool ' cause I got to go to a new house, and eat pizza and watch football. We went over to Marty Mutti's place for The Super Bowl and had a great time. And, most importantly, THE STEELERS LOST! All in all, it was a lot of fun, but I'm a little tired now. Time to go home for a nap. I'll check back in later.
WOW! What a cool weekend! The weather was fantastic, and Marty O' did not have to go out of town on Friday for a ball game, so we went over to my buddy Melvin's house and had movie night! We all scrunched together on the couch, and watched The Social Network. It was cool! Then on Saturday and Sunday we had plenty of time to hang out and play in the nice warm weather. On Sunday, we went to the park and Marty O' even took some pictures of us. I put a few up here, I hope you like them. Unfortunately, it was just a brief reprieve, colder weather is coming back soon, I'm glad we didn't put away the sweaters yet! I hope you and your little furry pals stay warm in the next few days! I'll check back in later this week!
Wow, has January gone by fast! It seems like we were just in Omaha celebrating New Year's but that was almost a month ago! I know it's been a while, but we've got Cabin Fever at our house! We've already slacked off on our resolution to quit smoking and lose weight, although we're still trying to walk a lot and that's keeping some of the pounds off. Still, I've got to keep moving or I'll turn into a slug!
I found some interesting weight loss theories on line I thought I'd show you. It's not just about diet and exercise -- cold weather presents extra challenges to keeping your weight in check. Here are some sneaky ways winter could be making you bigger:
· You sleep with a pile of blankets. Being too warm can keep you from getting a good night's sleep, which can make you gain weight. Keep your room at around 68 degrees.
· You have a cold. Even if getting sick didn't derail your workout routine, the virus that causes colds and flu can cause your fat cells to multiply and grow bigger!
· You go for carbs. Winter blues trigger carb cravings -- because carbs boost our mood.
· Your house is drafty. Keeping your house warm can help you eat less. Studies show we control our cravings better and eat less when we eat in warmer temperatures.
· Everyone else is gaining weight. The flu isn't the only thing that's contagious! Being around heavier people makes you more likely to put on the pounds yourself.
· You're stressed. Higher stress levels trigger your body to accumulate belly fat and, let's face it, being stressed makes us run for the cookies and French fries!
Oh well, I guess lying on the couch under two blankets eating burritos and watching football probably isn't the BEST thing we could be doing! Hopefully it'll warm up soon. But if you think this is cold, look on the bright side. Our friends in Ohio are under a lot of snow at 20 degrees! I'll take the weather in Kansas ANYTIME!
I'll check back in soon.
WOOF WOOF,
MILO
WOW! I can't believe it's already almost halfway through January! It seems like it was just yesterday when Marty O' and I were visiting all our relatives for the holidays! We made it to Cleveland and Omaha safely, and got back to Ark City just in time for winter! Sorry if we brought the cold weather with us! I like the snow, but when it gets too cold it reminds me of when we lived in Montana last winter. Fortunately, I got a brand new Christmas sweater from Marty O's niece Alex, and it fits me beautifully! I'm so warm when we walk now; it's like having a second fur coat. Thanks for the present Alex!
Oh, I almost forgot. I got a little scratch on my stubby little tail while we were gone, thanks to Norm and Crissy at Doggie Styles for fixing me up with some ointment that will make the hair grow back. I can stop scratching now! That's it for now, I'll check back in later.
Hey Everybody!
I hope you had a very Merry Christmas! Marty O' and I have been hanging out and celebrating the holidays with the O'Sullivans in Cleveland. I've met all of the family and quite a few of Marty O's old pals. I got a couple new bones and a new sweater to wear when it's cold, and I even got to meet my new pal Fritz and play in the snow with him at Marty O's sister Nora's house! Fritz got a brand new doggie bed from Santa Claus and I even got a picure of him on it! I also got a photo of us playing in the snow. We've had a super time in Cleveland, but it's time to move on and we'll be in Omaha for New Years. I'll put up a whole bunch of pictures when I get back, but for now it's time to hit the road! I'll check back in next year.
Boy am I pooped! I spent the whole weekend with my buddies Norm and Toby and Melvin while Marty O' was house sitting in Winfield. We had so much fun running around and playing, I spent all day Monday on the couch back at home! Now that I'm back in action, I wanted to say to everyone, MERRY CHRISTMAS! Marty O' and I are driving to Cleveland on Thursday, so this will be the last time I check in for a while. I'm going to try to check in from out of town next week, but we're going to be VERY busy. I get to meet all the O'sullivans I haven't ever met yet. I'm SOOOOO Excited! I do wish you a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year! I'll try to put up some photos of our travels as we make our way through Cleveland. That's it for now though, I've got to get packed
Hey Everybody!
I'm sorry I didn't get these pictures up sooner, but our computer at home went on the fritz. Marty O's pal Rene got some cool photos at the Willie Nelson concert last week, so I thought I'd out a couple up. The girls in the pics are my new favorite band The Secret Sisters. They were Willie's opener. Today we're going to Winfield and hang out at Community National Bank with the Salvation Army for SIX HOURS OF SALVATION. We'll be there from 11 'til 2 collecting presents for the little ones in Cowley County. Then from 3 'til 6 we'll be at the Salvation Army Thrift Store in Ark City. I just love hanging out with everybody. Bring your dogs along to say hey! I've got to get ready, so I'll let you go. Hope to see you out and about today!
Happy Monday! by Milo The Blog Dog, posted Dec 13 2010 12:52PM
What a GREAT weekend! Marty O' brought some sweet new music home from The Willie Nelson Show on Friday night. He met a couple of young ladies from Muscle Shoals, Alabama who call themselves The Secret Sisters. Well, I don't think the secret will be kept very long on these sweet young voices! I checked them out online and found a You Tube video of them on the David Letterman Show last month. Marty O' even had some pictures taken at The Show. I'll put them up as soon as I can download them. For now, check out my new favorite band!
Saturday, we took a nice long walk and had a nice long nap after that, then Sunday I went up to Winfield to hang out with my buddy Melvin and eat cookies. I LOVE this time of year! What's your favorite Christmas Cookie? I like the Chocolate Chip, but I know the chocolate is really bad for dogs, so mostly I just eat the other part. Still they're delicious. I may have to go on a diet in the New Year! Anyway, that's about all for now, just though I'd check in after a cool weekend. See you soon!
Marty O' is going to see my All Time FAVORITE Country Star tonight, Willie Nelson! He's going with his friend Rene, and she has a RAELLY good camera, so I hope they can get some good photos! Since Rene is going, too, that means I get to go to her house and play with Melvin, Toby and Norm while they're gone. I can't wait, we're going to have SOOOOO much fun running, and playing! Earlier today on The Get Up And Go Show, the Good Guys were talking about a new study on how to understand what your dog is saying when he barks! I've put the results down below, maybe it will help!
BARKS TO ENGLISH
Scientists say it's easy to become "bow-lingual" and understand what your dog is saying. The handy chart below translates canine barks and yelps into English and is an invaluable aid for letter carriers, dog groomers and anyone who wants to learn Lassie's lingo. It is based on a study of dog speech by researcher Adam Miklosi, of Eotvos Lorand University in Budapest, Hungary. He says the language, which many people understand instinctively, evolved between dogs and humans as a form of communication over tens of thousands of years of living together. What barks mean:
· High-pitched barking in clusters -- Pooch wants to chase a ball or fetch a stick. Translation: "Come play with me."
· Rising pitch and rapid-fire barks -- Pup is feeling sorry for itself. Translation: "Pay attention to me. I need to be petted."
· Loud barking a steady pitch --Dog is scared or upset. Translation: "Don't come near me."
· High-pitched single yelps -- Fido is lonely. Translation: "Where is everybody?"
· Low-pitched, gruff, continuous barking -- Dog is getting defensive. This bark is usually heard when there's a stranger at the door. Translation: "Beat it, buddy. Now."
I'm off to party with my pals! I'll check back in later! Have a GREAT weekend!
What a GREAT day! Marty O' came home for lunch and our neighbor was outside with his dogs Mickey and Dexter, so we got to run around and play for a little while in the backyard. Tonight I get to go to Rene's house and play with my buddies Melvin and Toby and Norm 'cause Marty O' has to call a basketball game. I'll be ready for bed by the time he gets home! While Marty O' was at work today, The Good Guys were talking about Christmas Songs, so I went online and found my FAVORITE. I've attached the link so you and your dogs can sing along just like we do at home! Enjoy The Singing Dogs' version of Jingle Bells, and I'll check back in later.
