Winfield student has case of whooping cough

A student at Winfield Intermediate School has been diagnosed with Pertussis, a condition also known as whooping cough, school officials said in a letter to parents this week.

Pertussis is a contagious, respiratory infection that affects the airways and is easily spread from person to person by coughing or sneezing. It takes about three to twelve days after infection for signs and symptoms to appear.
